Carla de Paiva Bezerra received her PhD and Master in Political Science from the University of São Paulo and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Brasília.
Currently, she is a tenure civil servant at the Science and Culture Forum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (FCC / UFRJ) and a researcher at the Center for Metropolitan Studies (CEM) and the Brazilian Center for Planning Analysis (CEBRAP). She has more than 10 years of experience working in state and federal civil service.
In 2018, she was a visiting researcher at the University of California Berkeley. Her dissertation examines participatory policies adopted by the Brazilian Worker’s Party in the recent democratic period of that country (1980-2016). Her research interests include democracy, participation, public policies, inequality, political parties and social movements in Brazil and Latin America.
Her native language is Portuguese (Brazil). She is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian.
