Nomfundo Ramalekana

University of Cape Town

Nomfundo is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Public Law at the University of Cape Town (UCT) Faculty of Law, where she convenes the Constitutional Law course. Her scholarship examines constitutional and human rights law from critical race and afro-feminist perspectives, focusing on anti-discrimination frameworks, feminist legal theory, and affirmative action jurisprudence. She earned her LLB with distinction from the University of Pretoria in 2014 and practiced corporate law at Bowmans in Johannesburg. Funded by a Rhodes Scholarship, she moved to the United Kingdom and completed a Bachelor of Civil Laws, an MPhil in Law, and a DPhil in Law at the University of Oxford in 2021.

In addition to her teaching and supervision at UCT, Ramalekana serves as a Research Director at the Oxford Human Rights Hub, contributing to comparative human rights dialogue and international academic networks. She actively bridges legal theory with civic action and urban governance. She serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for Ndifuna Ukwazi, a public interest organization advocating for spatial justice and housing rights in South Africa, and maintains board appointments with the Equal Rights Trust and the Tom Queba Memorial Trust. Her research evaluates how constitutional jurisprudence and equality litigation confront historical privilege and systemic inequality.
